Ropes Course Safety

 

At All Saints Camp, safety comes first. Our ropes courses was designed by experienced industry experts, Rope Works, Inc, an Approved Vendor of the Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). The goal of the Leap of Faith High Ropes course is to understand the real and perceived risks. Every year the Low and High Ropes Course will undergo an inspection by an ACCT Approved Vendor who will inspect all carabineers, belay devices, harnesses, and helmets, along with all components of low and high elements. Additionally, we replace all of our equipment as needed by retirement date or number of uses.

 

 

"On Belay"

Belaying is the process of managing the safety line to protect the climber. The belayer takes in the slack as the climber ascends the element, gives slack when the climber needs it, stops the fall of theclimber in the event of a slip, and lowers the climber safely to the ground. The safety of the ropes course depends on the belay team executing their responsibility without mistakes.

A number of safety checks help manage the real risks on the ropes course. Before participants climb, the leader must inspect or re-inspect the helmet, harness, and knots or hardware. Once the physical equipment is checked the instructor will then check the participant to make sure they are physically ready, mentally stable and emotional okay. If an instructor feels like a climber is not ready or not able to climb, they will then discuss with the participant. Participation is under the discretion of the Ropes Course staff, as to ensure the safety of all participants.

 

Ropes Course Instructors

Our Ropes Course Instructors all have an extensive background in Low Ropes facilitation and will understand various group needs. Each instructor undergoes extensive training and most have received a Level 1 Certificate from Rope Works, Inc. We conduct monthly trainings to ensure that each instructor is capable to be proactive with all users and groups. It is our philosophy to be proactive versus reactive.
